Planning your trip

Wondering when’s the best time of year to visit? How about which activities will be available once you get here?

In the vacation guide, you’ll find not only a helpful infographic detailing what kind of weather you can expect based on the time of year (page 8), but also a comprehensive list of events and activities happening throughout 2025 (pages 13 – 16). Whether you’re interested in attending the summer rodeo series, the winter ice fishing derby, one of the many free concerts in the city park, the Wild West Spectacular show, or the 44th Annual Buffalo Bill Art Show, there’s something for everyone. Make sure you keep up on all the latest happenings by checking out the events page on our website!

On page nine, there’s a checklist of all the must-see spots in Cody Yellowstone, including local attractions, wildlife, and all the landmarks of Yellowstone National Park. Bring it along with you on your next trip, or use it as inspiration for your own Cody Yellowstone bucket list!

If this is your first time visiting, and you’d like some additional tips and tricks, check out our blog post, How to Navigate Cody Yellowstone if It’s Your First Time.

When it comes to where to stay on your vacation, Cody Yellowstone has everything from high-end hotels to rugged campsites, whatever suits your fancy. In the vacation guide, you’ll find four-and-a-half pages of accommodations, but if you’d like a truly

Western experience, we strongly recommend booking a stay on an authentic dude ranch. Not only will you deepen your understanding of Wyoming’s rich ranching culture, but you’ll gain valuable skills and make lifelong memories.

Learning about Cody Yellowstone

Full disclosure: if we wanted to include Cody Yellowstone’s entire history in the vacation guide, it would probably end up being about 500 pages long. That’s just the reality when you live in a place with a history as rich as ours. But we think the vacation guide does a pretty good job of providing an overview.

In the “About” section towards the back of the book, you’ll find the story of our town’s founder, Buffalo Bill Cody, and a timeline of events dating all the way back to 1864. There’s a whole page of significant milestones happening in 2025, like the 130th anniversary of Cody’s original town site and the 100th anniversary of the Bill Cody Ranch.

On pages 48 and 49, we provided a map of some scenic drives you can take to learn more about the region. It’s the perfect way to familiarize yourself with the history and cultural identity of Cody Yellowstone before you even step foot here.

If you do want to read an entire book on Cody’s history, you’re sure to find one at Legends Bookstore located in downtown Cody, owned by singer/songwriter and Wild Watch ambassador Kalyn Beasley. Speaking of Wild Watch, keep an eye throughout the Vacation Guide for our other ambassadors, like Crossed Sabres Dude Ranch and CoveredGround Tours, whose businesses and expertise touch every corner of life here in Cody Yellowstone.

Let’s map this all out

Possibly the highlight of the entire vacation guide is a stunningly illustrated four-page map of Buffalo Bill Scenic Byway, with all its must-see icons and landmarks. On the backside of this map, you’ll find a handy mileage chart with distances from Cody and Yellowstone National Park.

Use this map as your guide when you drive down the Buffalo Bill Scenic Byway, then hold onto it as a keepsake once your vacation ends to remember your Wild West adventure and all the places you experienced.
