CODY, Wyo., Sept. 18, 2024 – Cody Yellowstone was named one of the best places to visit during the fall season by readers of USA Today who voted in the latest USA Today/10Best Readers’ Choice contest. The results of the contest were announced today. Cody was the only destination in Wyoming and one of only two in the West to make the list. “The fall months of September and October have become one of the most popular times of the year to visit as travelers discover our rich array of outdoor adventures like fly fishing, hiking and wildlife watching,” said Ryan Hauck, executive director of Cody Yellowstone, the marketing arm for the region that includes the towns of Cody, Powell and Meeteetse, a large swath of the Shoshone National Forest and about half of Yellowstone National Park. “Fall is also grown-up time here. With kids back in school we see more couples, older family groups and friend groups exploring the destination’s cultural attractions, lingering in the restaurants and hitting the trails.”

Outdoor adventurers can fish in the trout-abundant rivers and streams, drive a UTV to the intriguing mountain ghost town of Kirwin, ride a horse at a dude or guest ranch, hike miles of trails in the Shoshone National Forest as well as inside the park, experience a fascinating harvest-season agri-tourism tour in the nearby town of Powell and enjoy some of the best wildlife watching of the year, both inside and outside Yellowstone National Park. Not sure what to do? The Sunlight Sports Outdoor Concierge can help visitors decide on the best guided adventures for their groups.

Travelers with an interest in history can visit Heart Mountain WW II Interpretive Center – site of a Japanese-American confinement site – explore the five museums of the Buffalo Bill Center of the West, see the creations of Western artists at By Western Hands and much more.

Foodies, beer-lovers and shoppers will find plenty to love as well. Cody’s Sippin’ Trail prompted USA Today to name Cody the Best Small Town Beer Scene, and its thriving restaurants offer a variety of culinary delights. There are also one-of-a-kind shops like the Wyoming Buffalo Company and the Cowtown Candy Company.

Cody Yellowstone has garnered numerous other awards and media accolades recently. For example, the destination was named one of the top rafting destinations in the U.S. by Newsweek, Best Small Towns in the West by USA Today, Top Small Town Arts Scenes and a top art town by Travel + Leisure. Additionally, the Whitney Western Art Museum at the Buffalo Bill Center of the West was named the Best Art Museum in the U.S. by Newsweek. Other recent awards include “Top Western Town” and “Best Old West Art Town” by True West Magazine.

The region is known for rodeos, authentic guest and dude ranches, world-class museums and recreational adventures that reflect the adventurous spirit of the visionaries and explorers who brought the remote region to the world’s attention.
